26.November 1944 US Air Force or RAF

Hello,

on that day 3 crewmembers bailed out from a crippled plane near Giessen, north of Frankfurt. They captured the same evening near a small city called hungen. I searched all MACR on Foodnote but I did not found anything. The same day the RAF bombed Fulda on a dayraid.

Does anybody have informations about the fate of this three crewmembers?

Thank you.
Greetings.

Hello,

From your explanation it would seem that the three airmen were on a Daylight mission as you say they were captured the same evening, this would to me suggest that they were US airmen who bailed from a bomber . Many B24's and B17's were lost on the 26th.

NARA records over 160 US airmen POW on the 26th.
see www.armyairforces.com Databank for macr's Bomb Groups and serial details on the B17's and B24's

Bomber Command War Diary has No losses for the daylight raid on Fulda.

Flugplatz Giessen,

If 3 x POW can be assumed as info for the a/c lost on 26-11-44, then 2 B-24's come to mind:

42-94940 of 445th BG (T/Sgt Junis Price, T/Sgt Donald Welch and Sgt Walter McFadden) and possibly also 44-40172 of 491st BG (pilot 1Lt Robert Simons and two crew).

Exact location of losses however are not known to me.

Regards,

Leendert

Re: 26.November 1944 US Air Force or RAF

Hello,

thank you for the answers. The problem is, both planes come down in north germany. The city of giessen is north of frankfurt/main in the middle of germany. I did not find anything in the MACR of 26.11.1944 about a bail out of 3 crewmembers in the Giessen area. All losses was north or north west of giessen.

Best Greetings
