He 111 with Fliegerführer Irak

Hi,

Fliegerführer Irak sent to Iraq in May 1941 as part of a German mission to support the coup d'état of Rashid Ali.

I found on this French website http://www.crash-aerien.aero/forum/i...23692-930.html then scroll down and go to "Jeu 24 Jan 2013 22:51".

Is this "GM" at the bottom of the rudder a discreet part of the markings ?

How many known He111 lost with Fliegerführer Irak ?

Thanks in advance,

Bertrand

Known He 111 are:

5J+AC Stab II./KG 4
5J+JM 4./KG 4
5J+GM 4./KG 4

Are there more known contenders?

Hello Bertrand,

for details see JET & PROP 3/91 and 4/91, articles of Günther Ott "1941: Als die Luftwaffe für den Irak flog" or look for
adl-luftfahrthistorik.de > Frühere Artikel > 1941: Als die Luftwaffe für den Irak flog (Günther Ott).

Bertrand,
You can also read my article in Aéro-Journal #40.
Nine He 111s were sent but only 5 reached Mossul - only 3 escaped.
At least three other civilian He 111s of Ribbentrop's fleet were used to dissuss with Vichy authorities in Beyruth the possibility to use Syrian airfields as staging points (a couple of photos in my book "L'Aviation de Vichy au Combat, vol. 2."

Amitiés
