Wrecked B-29
Picture of a wrecked B-29, I think belonged to the 19th BG. Can anyone help with serial number?
Picture is not clear. Last edited by kaki3152; 26th October 2017 at 06:55. |

Re: Wrecked B-29
Possibly 44-69703. Many photos can be found on the web for that plane. It crashed on Iwo Jima.
The plane was from the 497th BG and the crash was March 10, 1945 after the first fire bombing raid on Tokyo. If you search in the WWII photos section by that serial number on fold3.com you can find several photos of the crash, including one of the crew standing in front of the wreck. The photos were taken earlier than yours as they show the plane pretty much intact. fold3 photos are free. Last edited by RSwank; 26th September 2017 at 20:59. |

Re: Wrecked B-29
You're right! The picture must be after they took her to the boneyard.
Thanks a lot. |
