was he Rommel's pilot ?

Good evening all,

I was given that book by a friend who flew gliders in France in the 70's.

His instructor was a German pilot who told him that he was Rommel's pilot during the war and he gave him a book with an autograph and also some pictures.

You can see attached his picture when he was young, and the autograph on this book. He also gave him a few genuine JU52 pictures taken above the Mediterranean sea and above mountains.
This German gentleman worked in banks after the war.

Can somebody identify this pilot and put a name on this face ?

Thanks in advance;

Gilles Collaveri

Re: was he Rommel's pilot ?

I forgot to mention that his first name was Werner,

and that he flew a Me109 at the end of the war, he was shot down by a P47 and wounded, he but survived;

Re: was he Rommel's pilot ?

From another forum and written by someone with some difficulty writing English.

Hi everyone. I´m a new guy here and saw the thread where was question about Rommel´s pilot. Here is small information about him.
Erwin had a personal pilot. He´s name Ulrich Brasche 25.11.1909-1.12.1984. Born in Estonia,Kullamaa(5th child). In 1930´s he was a one of the founders of a Viljandi airclub and flies with local build gliders and motorized aircrafts. Learned to fly in Rositten, Germany. He was political prison in Estonia. After released from prison, went to the Fatherland by Hitler´s call. Finished Lufthansa flightschool and during IIww got licence to fly on every types of planes what was used by luftwaffe. Mostly flew with Junkers medical flights.

In estonian newspapers was a lot of articles at that time about Ulrich´s acts.

Re: was he Rommel's pilot ?

Thank you Ed but this "Ulrich" does not match with our "Werner"
(I guess that Rommel had several pilots during the war).

"our" pilot was flying gliders in the 90's in Vinon, in the French Alps.

Here is another picture of him, and I shall post some JU52 pictures that he gave to my friend.

Hope we can put a name on him...

Gilles

Re: was he Rommel's pilot ?

Merci Chris,

and can somebody recognize this airport ? (picture from the same source)

I noticed that on the back of one of the pictures of this pilot, it is written: Saporoskje,

could it be this airport on this picture ?

Thanks and cheers

Gilles
