Translation of photo caption
Hi,
Could anyone please tell me what the German script says on the back of this portrait of a German flier? Was he lost in November 1940? The seller described him as lost over England in November 1940. with thanks Rick |

Re: Translation of photo caption
Hi Rick,
The caption reads "In the East, summer 1941. You, my dear Georg, gave you life for Leader and People. You have not fallen in vain. Helmut. Fallen in Nov. 1940" Hope of use! Cheers, Theo PS: could you let me know if you could send me the promised scans of the Gajewski pictures? You can PM me. |

Re: Translation of photo caption
Rick looking through a list of those Uffz. observers lost over England with first name Georg in Nov.40 . I found Uffz Georg Gross of 5/KG30 on the 23/24th and Uffz. Georg Micheel of 3/KGr.806 on the 30th. If whoever wrote on the back of the photo was in the same unit as Georg then only KGr.806 of the two units was in the East in summer 1941. Does the seller of the photo have anymore info, this cannot be taken as a firm identity without further evidence,

Re: Translation of photo caption
The KG54 history has that the aircraft of 3/KGr.806 was an an armed recon. to the S/W coast of England. Following Jager attack and engine failure the BO and BM baled out (over the sea) and remain missing. The FF ditched the aircraft ( Notwasserung auf See ) and he and the BF were picked up from their dinghy by a German S-boot,

Re: Translation of photo caption
Because the FF and Bf were unharmed they are not named in the GQM or the KG54 book.
