Ju 87D on its nose (photo)
Has anyone another photo of this nosed-over Stuka, photographed after the end of the war? The location would also be welcome.
Thanks,

Are the upper wing insignia Hungarian or a Luftwaffe variation? Looks like flame dampeners installed over the exhaust.

I know.
Perhaps someone has a better view.

Widely photographed, my notes identify the aircraft at Bayreuth-Bindlach, circa 1945.

That's exactly what I'd love to see, some of these photos (preferably from the side).
If these photos are not public, I'd appreciate a private view of them. Do you have any further details, as which unit(s) surrendered at Bayreuth-Bindlach?

Re: Ju 87D on its nose (photo)
Nice shot, Dénes, thanks for sharing it with us! Here are two more images of the same plane. Not very good ones, but I think they offer some insight.
At first I thought this Ju 87 might have been one that transferred from German to Hungarian use (with the Balkenkreuze properly adapted), but perhaps it was just some written-off example on which someone tried his painting skills. The swastika is missing, a common sight on decomissioned Luftwaffe planes and there seems to be a crudely painted "1" just in front of the fuselage Balkenkreuz. This fits neither the common Hungarian nor the German marking style. But this is just speculation on my part. If someone has more and/or better photos of this bird, I would also be happy to see them Cheers, Christian Last edited by ChristianK; 16th October 2019 at 09:58. |

Re: Ju 87D on its nose (photo)
This is it! Many thanks, Christian, for sharing these ones.
The close-up is particularly interesting. I can see the black No. 1 on the fuselage, perhaps another one behind it. Is the centre of the fuselage cross green? Also, I was wondering what are those darker bands across the horiz. stabilisers (tailplanes), visible on the front view. Any ideas? Finally, what units were stationed at Bayreuth at the end of the war (so we can attemp to identify the parent unit of this peculiar Stuka)?

Re: Ju 87D on its nose (photo)
Just did a quick search on ww2.dk and I guess the most likely candidates for the original owner of this Ju 87 are Stab/SG 151 and III./SG 151. But as this bird looks decomissioned it was possibly relegated to the Fliegertechnische Schule at Bayreuth.
3./NSGr.2 is also a possibility, but this frontline-unit moved to Bayreuth only in April 1945 and our example looks like it had been at this airfield for much longer.. |

Re: Ju 87D on its nose (photo)
Great photo Denes and I think ChristianK is right when he says original owner was Stab/SG 151. That's what I've always been led to believe but could be wrong

Re: Ju 87D on its nose (photo)
Given what looks like over-painrted banding on the tail planes and national marking that look one time Hungarian, could this have been taken back by the Luftwaffe?
Larger Images and cleaned up.
