Gabszewicz in France

I have found two more claims for Aleksandr Gabszewicz in France but suspect they are mistakes...

24 May 1940 Do215

5 June 1940 He111

In both instances this is recorded as the only victory in France and therefore I assume both entries are incorrect?

I also found that his victory on 1 June 1940 was recorded as a Do17...?

regards

Keith

Re: Gabszewicz in France

Hi!

I think 24 may and 5 June are mistakes. The 1 June is real but it was a He 111.

Best regards.

Re: Gabszewicz in France

Look like there has been lots of misconception, that he claimed a Do 17 with GC III/10 flying a Bloch MB.152. But he wasn't flying with GC III/10 but with DAT, from Lyon and claimed a He 111 flying a MS.406 (on 1st of June).
I wish I had on hand my books on the subject to give you more details.

Re: Gabszewicz in France

Yep he was with GCMP on 1 June 1940, and the He111 was apparently from 1./KG55. The other claims seem to have come from errors.

Re: Gabszewicz in France

Hi,

Gabszewicz claimed victory in France on 1 June only. It was before he came to GC III/10 and he was in Lyon (DAT). His victim was He 111 from 1./KG 55, a/c crashed near Dagneux. Gefr. J. Getz KIA while Lt H. Will, Obfw. O. Dettke, Fw. B. Marquardt and Uffz. A. Lohr were POW. It was the first combat of DAT this day.
