Single KG30 aircraft attacks Bridlington 11 Jul 40

At DBST 11:05 'a single German aircraft' bombed Bridlington on 11 July 1940. I guess it may have come from KG30. Checked The Narrow Margin but it makes no reference to it.

From the RAF online Battle of Britain Campaign Diary:

Between 0600 and 0900 hours a number of raids by single aircraft were carried out between Yarmouth and Flamborough Head and inland. Bombs were dropped at several places including the Royal Engineer Headquarters at Melbourne in Derbyshire, and at Bridlington where a truck containing ammunition was blown up.

Excerpt from the EoE translation of the Heinrich Weiss manuscript for 11 July, which was a very complicated day of activities for the Germans:

"A He 111H of II./KG53 attacked the railway bridge at Bridlimgton with 2 SC250 and 5 SC50 bombs (explosions were seen within the target)."

This is probably the incident to which you were referring.

Good evening, I am doing some research and with the aid of Google I find my self posting on this forum as a new member for the first time.

I live in Melbourne Derbyshire and am researching the bombing of our village back in 1940, 11th July to be exact. My grandad has a great account of the plane coming into the village as he was out in the fields returning from checking his fishing lines. Also on my dads side my grandma was at work in Derby when the air raid sirens went and leaving her army uniform making factory she also witnessed the plane fly over head on completion of the bombing. Both witnessed this plane so low grandad said he could of hit it with his catapult and could see the pilot.

So I was wondering if this could of been the same plane. I'm not so sure as the Melbourne bombs (8 in total) were dropped at 7.55am.

I've just purchased a book about this and it has some good accounts of the raid.

Any help would be much appreciated

my Grandad witnessed the plane coming over Melboune, he could see the pilot it was that low, also my grandma on my dads side was at work in Derby and watched it fly over also very low, both still alive today and remember it like yesterday. I know it was the HQ of the Royal engineers that was bombed. Would this be a significant target and the training depot was at kings newton. a similar bomb pattern as to the Bridlington bombs was in Melboune. I live opposite the site of the first couple of bombs which didn't make a lot of damage. Assuming these were c50s. It was always said they were after rolls Royce as it had Melbourne pool and church painted on. I personally think the Royal engineers HQ would be a good first target and also ammo depot's maybe in tutbry, burton and Bridlington.
