Bf109E GA+LE
Hello,
I have few question: My Grandfather: sergeant Kálmán Garai was a pilot, and he flew by this Bf-109 E, at Fall of 1943 on the airfield Börgönd-Székesfehérvár, Hungary. When he learned to fly by Bf 109 Emil. The code is: GA+LE My question which training group or school unit (Flugzeugführerschule) were in this time in there, and for which unit belongs this aircraft. Who was the leader of this unit. Unfortunatly my Grandfather pass a way in May of 1992. I can't ask anymore, anything from him. Thanks for everybody for the helping, sincerely, Balazs Garai |

Re: Bf109E GA+LE
Hello Balázs, the unit was Ausbildungskommando Jagd (ABKJ). The Hungarian twin unit of ABKJ was the "Vadászkiképző Keret" and it's CO was Jablonszky Elemér. Sorry, I have no info on the German commander. Another German-Hungarian training unit was Ausbildungskommando Zerstörer (ABKZ) for Me-110/210 conversation based at Ferihegy (later Szombathely and Vágfarkasd "Romboló Kiképző Keret") with Oblt. Hans Armin Weirich as a commander. Your grandfather as a nightfighter pilot certainly done the ABKZ training too.The GA+LE is from a photo or from your grandfather's pilot logbook? best regards Péter

Re: Bf109E GA+LE
Hello Balazs,
Unfortunatly, I can't tell you which school unit operated this Bf109 at the time your grandfather flew it in 1943, but according to the stkz GA+LE, this was the Messerschmitt Regensburg built Bf109 E-7 WNr.3803. I have one loss report with this WNr. so at least we know where this a/c ones served. 20.04.41 III./JG77 N.N., Bruchlandung, Fl.Pl. Larissa - 50% Perhaps someone has more on this Werknummer? best regards, Tomislav |

Re: Bf109E GA+LE
hello,
Yes I have my Grandfathers pilot logbook from November 1938 to until October 1944. He had to learning also fly by Bf110 E, G and Me 210 Ca-1, he did the ABK-Z Hungary too, from November 1943 to 02/Februar 1944 in Ferihegy-Budapest airfield. I don't have a picture about the Bf-109 E (GA+LE ), just the markings in his pilots logbook, unfortunatly for the Hungaryans fighter didn't write to the book any number or Stammkannzeichnummer. This number from one small paper, when he was flying by the Bf-109 E. Probably this kind of RADAR coordinate draw. He had to fly above 8000 meters, when he got this altitude, he immeditly turn down and to landet. This kind of training was, and this were for the Germans and the Hungaryans doctors and officers to chacked him. How he could fly in very high altitude. He didn't do well, his ears didn't licked this immeditly altitude changes, and he came like as a Zerstörer and a Night Fighter pilots. Maybe for me also was lucky, because if came as a single-engine fighter, 100 prozent, he could'nt survive the war. I hope I can help, sincerely, Balazs Garai |

Re: Bf109E GA+LE
Hello Balazs Garai
The excellent stkz database from LEMB http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/stam-g.html indicates that GA+LE was an E-7 with W.Nr. 3803 and served with JFS 4 JG 102. For JFS 4 info look here: http://www.ww2.dk/air/schule/jfs4.htm For JG 102 info look here: http://www.ww2.dk/air/jagd/jg102.html I have Bf 109 E-7 GA+HP a picture that is from an ex-eBay auction which might give you a good idea of what your Grandfather's plane looked like: Last edited by ChrisS; 12th April 2009 at 19:53. |

Re: Bf109E GA+LE
Hello Chris,
thanks for attached photo. Nice shoot. I made one draw, the plane could be like that. White "2" sign is sure on the engine cover. Second Bf109E attached picture White "8" also from Szekesfehervár-Börgönd at 1943. It is from one Hungarian book, Airwar in Hungary 1939-1945. Picture is scanned, and not so sharp. Re: Bf109E GA+LE
Balázs,
A small correction. By the time your grandfather flew the 'Emil', the swastika was placed on the fin and not across the fin-and-rudder.
