Re: Map reference

Hello Rene,
I can't help with the exact spot but GSGS 4416 should be Austria. If there is a further reference beginning with 'M' then it is possible to narrow it down more. (M671 = 'Middle Danube)

Regards,
Bruce

Re: Map reference

Zu Bruce
Not Austria. This must be in the Hannover area.

Re: Map reference

I am not sure if the Middle Danube map is in the series 4416 or 4116 as this reference seems to have both references (possibly a typo in one of the numbers??).

I did find another map here, which seems? to be Sheet N2 in the GSGS 4416 series ( apparently the same as AMS 641).

http://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/maps/am...nabruck-n2.jpg

It "appears" that co-ordinates 023338 are on this map but of course, that may be just a co-incidence if this is the wrong map.

Oops... I should have been on Sheet N-5 not N-2, (need more coffee this early). It looks like udf_00 (see below) has the N-5 map in the series.

Rene

Is it 1:100.000G.S.G.S (Geographical Section, General Staff) or is it a 1:25.000 sheet ?

Re: Map reference

Re: Map reference

Hello and thank you all.

Yes it´s about the crew from Lancaster JA711. With help of udf00 : http://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/maps/am...schweig-n5.jpg, I found the crashsite is near Weyhausen north of the Aller-Canal and E of Gifhorn. In : http://aircrewremembered.com/ward-geoffrey.html ( an Chorley BCLosses) the crashsite is named with Weyhausen near Eschede. That´s wrong.
Thank´s again and greeting, Rene

Re: Map reference

GSGS 4416 N5 (1944)

Bruce

EDIT- if above link does not work try this:
http://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww2/...pe_ndx100k.htm
If it still doesn't work go to
http://mcmaster.sirsidynix.net/uhtbin/cgisirsi/x/0/0/57/5/3?searchdata1=1022432{CKEY}&searchfield1=GENERAL^S UBJECT^GENERAL^^&user_id=WEBSERVER#

... and click on the first of the two 'URL' links where it says 'MAPS'. It is a good site but doesn't always allow access unless you go through the front door)
