Bf 110 group indentification?
Hello,
Being new to understanding Luftwaffe aircraft codes I was wondering - is it possible to indentify which squadron/group this Bf-110 is from based on the photo below? I believe this pilot may be Franz Stigler's (JG 27/JV 44) brother August, who was killed in October 1940 in France. Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated. Best Wishes, Bryan |

Re: Bf 110 group indentification?
Hi Bryan
Robert beat me to the same conclusion... To slightly expand this; this unit was Kampfgruppe 806, which had started life as Küstenfliegergruppe 806. They gained their Ju88As in the summer of 1940 and were based in France, firstly at Nantes and then Cean, so that would appear to fit with the info on the pilot.... but cant find any info on him. Re: Bf 110 group indentification?
Hello Robert & Ian,
Thanks so much for the help. I feel stupid for ID'ing the plane as a 110! The only other piece of information I have for August Stigler is that he was killed on October 22, 1940 and is buried at La Cambe, France. Not sure if that info helps with the mystery. - Bryan |

Re: Bf 110 group indentification?
Hi Bryan
La Cambe is in Normandy so that fits with KGr806 being at Caen-Carpiquet from 11th September 1940. However I believe that the war graves at La Cambe were a post-war establishment where dead German military were reinterred, so unfortunately that doesn’t provide definite evidence for where the death occurred. Loss records for KGr806 could help? regards Ian |

Re: Bf 110 group indentification?
Hi Robert
Do you have a complete code for the aircraft. From the photo (and the presumption that the staffel letter must be a H) it is M7+_H, but the missing letter could be R, P, H or F. Ian |
