Which USAAF squadron bombed Feldkirch in Austria on 1 October 1943

Which USAAF squadron bombed Feldkirch on the Austrian border with Liechtenstein on 1 October 1943?

The bomber unit concerned seems to have been one of the following: 340th Bombardment Squadron, 341st Bombardment Squadron, 342nd Bombardment Squadron, or 414th Bombardment Squadron. All were part of 97th Bombardment Group.

But which squadron was involved?

They were returning from an aborted raid on Augsburg and Feldkirch seems to have been a target of opportunity.

Many thanks for any help,

Sid

This website, which is concerned with the 414th BS, mentions that the 414th bombed Feldkirch on 1 October 1943, rather than the primary target of "Rusburg" corrected to "Ausburg", i.e. "Augsburg"):

Scroll to 2nd page of the missions list and note the "clickable" comment in the box on left side of the 2nd page:

http://www.reddog1944.com/Missions_T...bat_Action.htm

It appears some of the information there was provided by an Austrian researcher, Gehard Winkler (who gives a perhaps no-longer valid email address) :

As to what happened at Feldkirch there are a couple of Austrian websites that give some details (Google translate gives a rough English translation):

https://regiowiki.at/wiki/Luftangrif...._Oktober_1943

RSwank,

Thanks.

I saw that site, but it is not absolutely clear that it was the 414th that bombed Feldkirch, as it is only mentioned in an unsourced side box and all four squadrons had the same mission to Augsburg.

That was why I asked the question here.

Thanks again,

Sid.

It would appear the source was Gehard Winkler, who left his email address in the comment section on the reddog website. Did you ever try to contact him?

I didn't.

Thanks for the idea. I will try.

Cheers,
