Herbert Kutscha's 8th to 16th Abschuss

Hi all

I know there has been previous discussion here on Herbert Kutscha's claims. I am currently going through a Flugbuch to a Bordfunker who flew extensively with Kutscha during his time with 5./SKG 210 in Russia and thought there might be interest in the following entries. Unfortunately the aircraft type is not always given and the hand-writing is challenging so please forgive my efforts at place names:

30th June 1941 - Attack on Brishova(?) Airfield. Kutscha's 8th shoot down
15th July 1941 - Low-level attack on Schatalowka Airfield. Air battle with DB 7 bomber. Kutscha's 9th 'shoot down'
26th July 1941 - Low-level attack on ? Airfield. Kutscha's 10th 'shoot down'
6th October 1941 - 'Road hunt' northeast of Yukhnov. Air battle with R-Z. Kutscha's 11th 'shoot down'.
7th October 1941 - 'Road hunt' northeast of Vyazma. Air battle with R-Z. Kutscha's 12th 'shoot down'.
22nd October 1941 - Air battle with Potez 63 southwest of Moscow. Kutscha's 13th and 14th 'shoot downs' (it clearly references Potez 63!)
9th December 1941 - Attack on Russian cavalry and troop concentration south of Livny. Kutscha's 15th 'shoot down'
19th December 1941 - Low-level attack on Russian troops northwest of Yelets. Kutscha's 16th 'shoot down'.

Hi Tim

Many thanks for your thread. I will check why most are missing from the mikro films. There is also a mikro film just for individual pilot, only end of "K's" beginning of "L's" seems to have survived, so Kutscha amongst them, but these abschuße liste are based on what unit information has survived, the 5./SKG 210 data is:-

30th June 1941 I-15 0415 hrs
26th July 1941 MiG-1 1945 hrs
6th October 1941 R-5(R-Z) 0750 hrs

Hope the times match the flugbuch entries.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Johannes/Tim

What is interesting is that the FB does NOT mention Kutscha's claim on 30.6.1941. Also if the FB specifically mentions the claim's number, ie 8 and 9, there is no room for a claim on that date, unless we invent an 8½.

Perhaps the claim listed as 30.6.1941 actually took place on 13.6.1941?
Buschow (Johannes) or Brishova (interpreted by Tim) sounds a bit the same, or...?

BTW Tim, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Herbert Kutscha's 8th to 16th Abschuss

Hi Johannes and Stig - apologies, it is my typing error and the Flugbuch does put the 8th 'shoot down' on 30th June (not 13th as I originally stated). The writing could easily say Buschow. I attach a scan for reference.

I double-checked the other dates and they are as stated in the Flugbuch.

That now makes a lot more sense I think.

Again apologies for the error.

Hi Johannes

The Flugbuch times up and down for these flights are as follows:

30th June 1941 up at 13:25 and landed at 15:14. The Flugbuch shows a transfer flight earlier in the day but the times make no sense (take off at 16:20 from Rogasnika, landing at 06:55 at Klemensov) and the dates have been corrected (period amendment) so there may be an error here.
26th July 1941 up at 18:00 and landed at 20:10 - fits well.
6th October 1941 up at 07:00 and landed at 08:17 - fits well

Easily forgiven Tim

No worries, I simply correct your data. Thanks for adding times.

Cheers
Stig

PS: If you look again at the 'impossible' time 16.20H you will actually see it is a very sloppily written 0. One can just discern a slight space in between...
