Gladiators in action 11 August 1940

Hi guys

On 11 August 1940:

Two Sea Gladiators of 759(T) Squadron based at Eastleigh were scrambled in defence of the airfield when enemy aircraft were reported in the area. The pilots sighted three Ju88s over the Solent and dived to attack. One was claimed probably destroyed. Since returning bomber crews failed to report being attacked by Gladiators, their victim may well have been the 7 Staffel machine 9K+FR that crashed into the Solent with the loss of Fw Wilhelm Haak and his crew – although credited to 92 Squadron Spitfires.

Can anyone identify the two Gladiator pilots?

Cheers
Brian

Are you sure about the date as I have 9K+FR lost 19 Aug 40 over the Solent, pilot Fw Moser?

Hi Chris

Beware! Those Gremlins are back! The Gladiator interception occurred on 19 August (not 11 August)

You are of course correct - 9K+FR was lost on 19 August. Fw Haak was a member of the crew. So, any ideas?

Incidentally, one of the Gladiators was N5500.

Happy Easter!
Brian
