Bf110 unit in North Caucasus Dec.42-Jan.43?

According to Soviet sources, unspecified Bf110 unit has operated in North Caucasus during Dec.42-Jan.43. According to 5.Air Army intelligence division, number of Bf109s was estimated as 12 on 10.Jan.43, 5 on 20.Jan.43 and zero on 31.Jan. Combat units has reported about contacts with Bf110s from time to time also.

I wonder what units had Bf110 in North Caucasus for the timeframe in question. Can't find any (and Bf110 appropriate losses too).

Best regards,
Andrey.

Re: Bf110 unit in North Caucasus Dec.42-Jan.43?

Maybe some improvised unit - as Nachtfluglehrgang 3 or Stukastaffel Sattler, which has used in the same area in the beginning of 1943?
Or it was one of I./ZG1 Staffeln? Or some recce unit with Bf110?

Best regards,
Andrey

Andrey, it was II./ZG1, minus 4. Staffel (operated as long range escort for transportes to Stalingrad), minus several crews from 5./ZG1 (operated from Verbovka airfield in the area W from Stalingrad).

In January, roles were shifted - I./ZG1 flew further to NW, to operate over Italian troops at Millerowo area, and II./ZG1 was withdrown from Caucass and moved to operate in Stalingrad area.

Evgeny, thank you a lot!

So it was the part of II./ZG1 and it has withdrawn from N.Caucasus sometime between 20. and 31.Jan.43?

Best regards,
Andrey
