Spitfire Vb AB975 history or photo request?

Hi.

Am trying to research the history of a Spitfire that crashed in Dorset, plus would love to get any photos of former pilots of the plane, or the actual plane itself. It would be interesting to know why it crashed.

Spitfire Mk Vb Serial AB975
Built August 1941
Served in squadrons 609, 121, 71, 334 USAAF, and finally 277 rescue.
Crashed 25 June 1944 in Oborne, Sherbourne, Dorset.

Two known pilots were Giovanni Dieu in 609 squadron, and Duane Beeson in 334 Eagle squadron.

Any help would be much appreciated, many thanks.

Many thanks for your help. I was also wondering if the RAF museum in London might have more records, so I could get in touch with them and ask.

The RAF Museum & Air Historical Branch would have the Form 78 (Aircraft Movement Card) which would give dates and units but as to who flew the aircraft, you would have to go to the National Archives and look at the F540 for each Sqn. In respect of 609 Sqn, I have photos of most pilots

Thanks very much for the info. Don't suppose you have a photo of Giovanni Dieu of 609 who flew the plane?

Any chance you would be able to post the photo of him, that would be great? I have managed to get a photo of Duane Beeson, but not of any of the other pilots. Many thanks.
