E Scott McCuskey
I have been looking into this pilot's background and have found a few details missing. Does anyone know what his father did for a living? Also he is listed as attending the Universities of Alabama and then Arkansas. He was in his freshman year studying law at the University of Arkansas in early 1938, aged twenty-three, which would argue he'd completed his first degree, perhaps at Alabama? His nickname was "Doc".

Re: E Scott McCuskey
I should state his fathers name was Joseph Carl McCuskey (born 1883 Ohio, died Arkansas 1933), and if so perhaps his son did not go to university in Alabama. His family do not appear to be wealthy and the death of his father during the year he would have first attended Alabama might argue it'd be difficult.

Re: E Scott McCuskey
Keith,
In the 1920 Census it looks like his father's occupation is Rice Farmer; in the 1930 Census it appears to be Rice Grower. Enjoy! Frank.

Re: E Scott McCuskey
In the 1937 University of Arkansas Yearbook, Scott McCuskey is listed as a transfer student from Alabama. He apparently did not use his first name Elbert. He was in the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
In 1938, (Elbert) Scott McCuskey was a Senior. His "major" or degree is shown as "Arts". There are a lot of graduating seniors with that notation. It may mean something like a BA in general studies. He was a freshman at Alabama in 1935. Also in Kappa Sigma. He was probably at Alabama in 35 and 36 and Arkansas in 37 and 38. |

Re: E Scott McCuskey
Many, many thanks chaps. Your replies to my McCuskey questions is expanding my knowledge of the USN by leaps and bounds Bios on USN pilots seem very rare.
best regards Keith |
