27th Air Transport Group – Paris, France
Hello/Bonjour,
I wanted to know the airfield or airfields which were serviceable at Paris between August 25 and September 15, 1944? (e.g. Orly, Le Bourget or Villacoublay) - Serviceable immediately after the liberation of the town. I am looking for the airfields which would have been used by Squadrons of the 27th Air Transport Group during that time. Best regards, Frederic |

Le Bourget was a battlefield between 2nd DB and German troops on 26 and 27 August 1944, with some of the fighting around the hangars.

On page 105 of this: https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/AAF/VII/AAF-VII-4.html
"The pattern of air transport service over the North Atlantic changed rapidly in response to the Allied successes in land warfare on the Continent. On 31 August 1944, only four days after the last of the German troops left Paris, the Air Transport Command landed its first aircraft at Orly Field, nine miles away. Orly began almost at once to sustain a heavy traffic between the United Kingdom and France. Hardly a month later, on 4 October, the first scheduled ATC plane on the New York-Paris run landed at Orly. By the middle of the month the ATC's C-54's were averaging three round trips daily between the homeland and France, with Stephenville and Lagens as stopping points. " |

Re: 27th Air Transport Group – Paris, France
Hello/Bonjour gents,
According to your answers (...and the link), it seems Paris-Orly was the only serviceable airfield in the very first days after the liberation of the town. Thank you for those comments. Best regards, Frederic |
