R. P. Stevens' 151 Sqn Hurricane Serial

In Alastair Goodrum's "No Place for Chivalry" details of Stevens' last claim on the night of 22/23 Oct. 1941 is related, however the serial number of his Hurricane IIc is first given as Z2361 but later as Z3261. I am inclined to think that the latter is correct since that seems more likely to be a Mark IIc. Anyone have the gen on this?

In the same book, the Mosquito II flown by I.S. Smith on the night of 24/25 June 1942 is stated to be W4097. However Shores & Williams in "Aces High" say it was W4095. Both of these Mossies served with 151 Sqn., anyone know which is correct?

Thanks,
Tom

"Mosquito" says it was W4097, though it doesn't give a source.

To make matters worse, Frank Olynyk says it was DD613 - also served on 151 Sqn.

Re: R. P. Stevens' 151 Sqn Hurricane Serial

Hi Tom
Air Britain Z-Serials has Z3261 as a IIc serving with 151/32 and 253 Sqns and spinning into the ground SE of Grimsby on 14.8.42. Z2361 falls into a gap in their record between Z2357 and Z2382. The same gap is indicated in Robertson's British Military Aircraft Serials. It suggests that the Serial was planned but never allocated.

Dick

Or of course it could have been a 'Black Out Block'

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your resposes. I'm fairly confident that the correct serial for Stevens is Z3261. The other most likely a typo. A little bit more confusion on Smith's Mossie however. Perhaps if Frank Olynyk reads this he can clarify his source for DD613.
