Re: IAR 80 fates

I'm not sure how much info. is in this book, it's been years since I read it. There is a pic of #109 in it though.

Rumanian Air Force, The Prime Decade, 1938-1947. Squadron/Signal Publications.

Regards,
Mike

James,

It is a must about the type and I'm sure, you can find the answers in this book:

Actually, you can't, as only the fate of No. 140 is mentioned (written off on 12 May 1942).

What I have on No. 42 is that it was damaged in combat on 20 Aug. 1941 (details can be found in my book, From Barbarossa to Odessa, vol. 2), while No. 109 was still available on 10 March 1945.

Photos of all three airplanes are available.

Denes

In your opinion is this IAR 80 book any good? I am thinking on buying it, but if it only gives the fate of one single aeroplane I start to hesitate...

Cheers

Yes, it is a good book, no question about it. It is worth buying, if you're not short on cash.

However, it isn't, by far, exhaustive, many white spots remaining in the story of this sleek fighter type. Therefore, there is room for more...
