![]() Hello,
Many Finnish pilots were awarded Iron Crosses, both 1st and 2nd classes. I know for a German pilot it was expected of him to shoot down at least three aircraft to be considered for the IC 2nd Class and at least eight aircraft for the IC 1st Class. Did these unofficial requirements hold true also for the Finns who received the medals or were they more symbolic awards when issued to a Finnish pilot? I know Juutilainen was awarded both classes of the IC and Wind was awarded only the 2nd class IC. There doesn't to me seem to have been any set requirements to be meet by the Finns to receive the German IC and I wonder why no Finn pilot was ever awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross? Just wondering...... Mike |
