Can You Help ID This Do 17

A recent acquisition, seller has it as a KG 157 aircraft. There is a 1939 date on the photo. I don't believe that KG 157 had Do 17s, thought it was He 111s. Please note the markings under the cockpit. Thanks for your help.

Chuck

The markings under the cockpit may be RLB.

Initials are KGB (Kampfgeschwader Boelcke). More info here: http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...showtopic=4130

Thanks Clint. The insignia certainly matches. Which leads to the question of how long the unit had Do 17s. reference I've checked show He 111s in 1939. Can anyone help with that? Thanks.

Re: Can You Help ID This Do 17

hi,

the markings refer to the stabsstaffel of kg boelke. so they could use the do 17 f for photorecce instead of he 111, which the other staffeln were using as bombers.

all the best
jim

Re: Can You Help ID This Do 17

The Do17 appears to be an E bomber version. The bombsight is just in shot to the far left. Unless they were using the bomber version as a makeshift recce aircraft instead of the Do17F recon versions?
