Re: Ju W34's Lost in Action

Hi guys

Just accessed this item. There are a few corrections I would like to make

The Junkers site for the Ju W34 losses are mostly incorrect. I have written to the owner/keeper of the site to tell him this but I have had no replies from.

For some reason either the dates are wrong or the operating Unit.

W 34 68008 The operator is Flieger.Ziel.Gs.2 and not JG 108
(One crew was killed Fw.Herbert Dachsel)

W 34 1346 (correct W/nr.1436) the operator is Stab/BordfliegerGr.196

W 34 W/nr. 0175 Operator was LDK Belgian-Nordfrankreich and not
FeuhrerSt.Horst.

Does anybody else have any unknown Ju W34 losses/claims from Allied sources.

Thanks

Regards

Tom Willis

Re: Ju W34's Lost in Action

Hi
Thanks for your excellent replies to my original query - it is amazing how one question can open up so much information.
It would be interesting to see just how many non-combat types such as the Fw.58,Siebel 204,He.59 etc were shot down by allied fighters
Once again guys thanks for your replies

Bruce

Re: Ju W34's Lost in Action

Hey Tom,

Yes we found a small metal plate with no. on it.
It was sure a JU-34.They used it for towing a bag,so the FLAK can shoot on the bag.The whole crew of three was burning in the wreck.
Crash was in a grassland , Rimpelerweg/Stationsstraat,Putten,Holland
Pilot was ; Uffz.A.Schulte.
( look at Google Map ; Rimpelerweg - Putten - The Netherlands )

Groeten Jaap

Re: Ju W34's Lost in Action

Hi,

F/Lt Marples, P/O Ranger and Sgt Whiteford from the 41 Sqn shot down on 18 September 1941 a Ju W34 off Ostend. They claimed a Ju 52, but in fact it was a Ju 34 from Luftgau Kdo Belgien/Nord Frankreich (WNr 1319) and the 3 crew members were killed (Fw. Karl Weber, pilot; Uffz. Herbert Fenske, radio and Ogfr. Alfred Rostial, engineer). Once again the RAF pilots misidentified this aircraft. The Ju W34 crashed at Het Zoute near Knokke on the Belgian coast.

An old post reply, but would just add that Ju W34 WNr-2751* from Ld.abt.4 remains were found on the Crozon peninsula by Jean Tréguer with the help of local people.

Hope this helps
