2.Batterie/ Flak-Abteilung 122

Hello,

I'm working on the crash of the Short Stirling HA-A on 12 March 1943 at Martin Eglise.

According to the information I have, it was shot down by the '2.Batterie/ Flak-Abteilung 122'.
I'm trying to find out where it was stationed.
Would you have any leads?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yours sincerely
François

Yes, that's from the Theo Boiten series on night combat in the skies over Europe, 1939-45. Theo Boiten is a member of this forum.

Re: 2.Batterie/ Flak-Abteilung 122

Hello aerodieppe,

Are you now looking for the 12. March or the 9. April 1943, because that is not clear to me.

The 2./ Res. Flak-Abteilung 122 has a claim from a Stirling with the location Dieppe at 01.40 on 12. March 1943.

The 2./ Res. Flak-Abteilung 122 was on 23. August 1942 at Boulogne. Unfortunately, the location for March 1943 is not known to me.

Regards,
René

Re: 2.Batterie/ Flak-Abteilung 122

Good evening René,

Are you a French speaker?

I'm looking for the 12 March shooting of the Stirling.
I have the same information as you.
The Stirling crashed on fire at Martin Eglise after bombing Stuttgart.
So it is highly likely that the plane was hit by flak further east of Martin Eglise.
If the 2/Res Flak-Abteilung 122 was based on the coast, that's a long way to go and at the limit of the range of an 88mm gun, in my humble opinion.
So I think that this flak was rather on a Dieppe position set back from the coast.
If possible, I would like to know where exactly this flak was in the Dieppe sector.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yours sincerely
François

Re: 2.Batterie/ Flak-Abteilung 122

Hello François,

I am Dutch-speaking and live in Germany.

Boulogne was where the 2./Res. Flak-Abteilung 122 was in Augustes 1942. So I also think that the 2./Res. Flak-Abteilung 122 was in the vicinity of Dieppe, but have no further sources for where exactly.

Regards,
René
