Claims by air-gunner of RAF

Hi,

I didn´t have any sucess with my question about New Zealand air-gunners so I will widen the scope of my question to see if I have any luck.

Is there any books/site with information about claims by air-gunners of RAF or has anyone made a research on this subject.

Chistopher Shores covers the gunner-claims in South-East Asia (Bloody Shambles), 2nd Tactical Air Force and during operations in Greece and Crete but this is only a part of the operations with gunners involved.

There is a lot of information about Bomber Command losses and claims by german night-fighters on the net but sofar I have not found anything about claims by air-gunners.

Cheers
Peter

Hello.
Like me you appear to have a passing interest with airgunners.
Try reading "Gunning for the Enemy" by Wallace McIntosh who is the highest scoring RAF airgunner of WW2. All his kills are listed in great detail in the book and it makes very interesting reading. It proves that provided the nightfighter got up close a few bursts from 4 .303 Browning's was more than enough in the right hands to do the job

Thanks,

Seems to be an interesting book. I found some information about the book on Amazon. He had a hard life before he joined the RAF. I will put the book on my "to buy list".

Wallace McIntosh is probably the highest scoring air-gunner in Bomber Command but a few Defiant-gunners had higher scores according to this list of Notable RAF air gunners:

Of course it´s difficult to compare air-gunners from bombers and Defiants because the type of operations was completely diffirent.
