Pokal, Knights Cross & Oakleaves Grouping

A very nice original grouping to a Ground Attack Pilot Heinz Frank

Major Heinz Frank (12.12.1914 - + 7.10.1944), Luftwaffe III/SG1, Gruppenkommandeur 11/SG2 'Immelmann' and later Kommandeur IV/SG151. He had completed over 900 missions, and had 8 air victories.

His awards include:
Ehrenpokal am 22.12.40
RK am 3.9.1942
Oakleaves am 8.1.1943

The collection of his items consists of: (see photos)
  • The Ehrenpokal
  • Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, by Steinhauer & Luck (micro 800-marked on frame) with length of original ribbon, folded and evidence of wear.
  • Oakleaves to the Knights Cross, 1st pattern by Godet (L/50 900 marked)
  • German Cross in Gold marked 20 for Zimmermann
  • German Cross in Gold on Luftwaffe blue cloth backing.
  • Pilot Badge (marked Bruder Schneider AG Wien)
  • EKI marked L/11
  • EKI unmarked (Zimmermann), slightly vaulted
  • Miniature EKII & EKI on a stickpin
  • 2 Ribbon bars - luft devices removed
  • The Ehrenliste with the date of award of the German Cross in Gold to Frank
  • 5 Newspaper cuttings from the time relating to Heinz Frank, his winning of the knights cross and oakleaves etc.
  • 4 postcards of the 'Unsere Luftaffe' series, all written & signed by Frank in pencil on the reverse
  • A death notice from the family of Willi Frank, announcing the death of his son Heinz
  • Officer uniform Hat by Erel
  • Large period photo of Heinz Frank
  • Commemorative statue in wood, presented to Frank as the first winner of the Knights Cross from Arnstadt. The inscription reads: 'Dem 1. Ritterkreuztrager Arnstadts - Das Handwerk'

Heinz Frank had a very successful career since joining the Luftwaffe in 1937. He flew combat missions throughout the battles for Poland, France, and the Battle of Britain. His units would have seen action later in Greece and on the Eastern Front. He was a Friend of Gerhard Barkhorn. Frank died in hospital as a result of his wounds sustained when his pistol accidentally discharged and lodged a bullet in his hip
