Ju88C Z/KG30 claim 17 April 1940

Hi guys

On reading 'Fledgling Eagles' I note that Chris Shores states that on 17 April 1940 off the Norwegian coast a Ju88C from Z/KG30 claimed a Hudson but that he believed it was a Walrus from the cruiser HMS Suffolk. I haven't found a loss for a Walrus. Can anyone enlighten me, please?

Also on this date, a He111 of II/KG26 was claimed badly damaged by Skuas. Has anyone any details?

Cheers
Brian

Hi Robert

So you are confirming that a Walrus was shot down on this date? What is your source?

Cheers

Thanks Robert - I think this requires further research.

How's your own work progressing? If I can help further just give me a call.

Cheers

All I have is that Ofw Martin Jeschke in Ju 88 C-2 4D+BH claimed a Blenheim west of Stavanger at 0535 hrs and the 700 Sqn Walrus was damaged. It was Jeschke's 2nd kill of the campaign

Re: Ju88C Z/KG30 claim 17 April 1940

Hi Brian;

I have this ´Blenheim´ as Hudson of 233 Sq (I have not found an matching Hudson loss - then claim not valid?), besides this below...

´An Ju 52/3m of Stab./KG 30 burned out at Stavanger- Sola in early morning of 17.04.1940: it was hit by an flare from RAF Hudson of 233 SQ but as dawn broke this was attaced by an Ju 88 C of (Z)/KG 30 flown by Oblt. Jeschke claiming an RAF ´Blenheim´. The German then shooting down RN/FAA Walrus from HMS SUFFOLK (spotting for its guns at Stavanger). ...´

Besides the 4D+BH likely was the third Ju 88 C-1 with this code... (Possibly 088 0139)

cheers
