US Navy Bailout October, 21, 1931
Chief Aviation Pilot Stanley John Jaros US Navy San Diego California
I believe this may be 311021 Boeing F3B-1 A-7680 SAN DIEGO CA But would like confirmation please "The roster of the Caterpillar Club at this writing shows 411 names, the latest member to be initiated being S.J. Jaros, Chief Airplane Pilot, U.S.Navy, who was forced to take to his chute when, during dive bombing practice, the fabric stripped off the wings." Jaros died less than 2 years later. This is in Patrol Plane Number "1-P-11" Type unknown from VO-3B - Death: 14 Jul 1933 July 15, 1933 Journal Gazette from Mattoon, Illinois • Page 4 Propeller Kills Aviator In Air HONOLULU. July 14. (AP) Stanley John Jaros, 33 years old. chief aviation mate and naval airplane pilot, was killed today when bumpy air threw him into the propeller of a twin-motored patrol craft In which he was flying with Lieut. (JG) Kenneth Craig, naval pilot VO Sqn 3-B . The accident occurred In extremely rough air at a height of 1.000 feet- Jaros was thrown out of the second pilot seat directly ahead of one of the motors, tnto the whirring blades. The details of the first event are confirmed.
As regards the July 1933 incident, the aircraft involved was Keystone PK-1, A-8511, of VP-1F, flying off Kaena Pt. Oahu. Jaros, flying as co-pilot, was in the left hand seat, but not strapped in. When a patch of rough air was encountered during a right turn the port wing dropped suddenly and Jaros was thrown out of his seat into the propeller.
