Re: American Aces Died in 2011
While researching the update to the American Fighter Aces Association roster, I discovered an ace who had died over 15 years ago, who was still being carried on the roster.
DRIER, William Charles. 6. July 1, 1995. El Paso, Texas (?). Rest in Peace. Frank.

MILLER, Everett "Bud". 3. April 10, 2011, (Valley Center), California.
Some sources indicate he had five victories, but I have only ever been able to document 3. He told me once that he thought he had documentation for five, but I was never able to follow up. RIEGER, Vincent Arthur. 5. April 16, 2011, (Denver), Colorado. Rest in Peace. Frank.

Re: American Aces Died in 2011
Sorry to hear Bob Goebel died,he was a great guy. I met him at an airshow in Santa Maria in the early 90s, where he was signing copies of his book "Mustang Ace". We got into a great discussion on the 15th AF and told him some things that he did not know, i.e. the case of Lt Martin Monti who defected to the Germans with an F-5 Lightning. We exchanged correspondence for a few year before losing touch.
On a side note, just as he was signing his book, he asked if I'd like another 31st FG ace to sign also,of course I said Sure!! and he called Jim Brooks who was walking by to sign! Pretty cool! He was a gentleman and a war hero, blue skies forever... |
