Α Ju 52 at the coast of Salonika

Dear friends,
Here a pic i`ve never seen again, a Ju 52 (S + SE) at the coast of Salonika during the German occupation. Probably an ambulance plane.

Any ideas of its unit ?

Re: Α Ju 52 at the coast of Salonika

I see K6+ES. The tail code indicates this is a Ju-52 from a transport unit. Probably Kü.fl.Gr.406 (406th Coastal Aviation Group).

Looks like G6+ES with Luftransport Gruppe (See) 1, 1943?

Hi,

I think it is C6+ES, W.Nr. 7103, a plane as hangar said of Seetransportstaffel 1.
Maybe a bad landing, it almost reached the buildings on the other side of the street.
Remi, i thought you are at Naxos. We`ll meet soon in Salonika.

Re: Α Ju 52 at the coast of Salonika

I reached Naxos the day after tomorrow, seems that day right ! the 29 th, the plane was probably towed to the port after the forced-landing, not a small accident 5 dead, some saved themselves swimming to the coast..

Re: Α Ju 52 at the coast of Salonika

Forced-landing occured 200 m from the coast , 4 deads nd 7 ...the german report says
4 Toten /7 Mann einschl, Besatz, retteten sich d, Schwimmen geborgen d, He59+Ar196
So most probably, plane landed due to fire on front engine, 7 people succeeded to swim "at large", nd were saved thru the Heinkel nd the Arado, picture shows the plane after it have been towed to the port , seems that in the picture part, front part of the plane is missing

Re: Α Ju 52 at the coast of Salonika

Ju 52/3mg5e W.Nr. 7103 arrived in Pillau on 24. February 1943 with the markings G6+ES, for conversion to floatplane. It was reported ready for test
flight after conversion on 02. March 1943.
