Mondscheinkarte/Black light maps...
A bit small print, this. Does anybody know much about the production of Mondscheinkarte? Abteilung V, VII? Assume the first began to appear in the final quarter of 1940. Anything on colour ramps used. Anyone have sheet keys?
The term is clearly borrowed from the romantic night scenes popular c 1900-1910. Who was the bright spark who borrowed the term. As ever ChrisG |

Chris,
These glow in the dark maps produced a yellow-green color. I know nothing about their manufacture. Ed |

Here's one of London, dated september 1941. There's one in the IWM.
Anyone know of others? Best ChrisG |

Re: Mondscheinkarte/Black light maps...
Hundreds of these were made, in various sizes and covering numerous regions.
What specific info do you need? Apart from being made of a yellow oil cloth, there was not much else to them. |

Re: Mondscheinkarte/Black light maps...
Harrison 987, thanks
It's these 1:100,000 maps, not the fairly often encountered Navigationskarte, that I'm interested in. I've seen two colour ramps used on maps like this- I'd like to know more about the colour research behind that. I'd like to know who printed them, and in what quantities. I know most of the UK was covered, but I'd like to know when the first sheets were issued, as three at least were being ordered destroyed in January 1941. I'd also like to know if anyone has copies or has seen, similar maps for USSR areas. Moscow, Leningrad. Or, for that matter, Malta? If you have information like this I would be very keen to lean of it. Best ChrisG |
