More information:

"First at the Enemy"

Aircraft and coastal reconnaissance aircraft Heinkel He 60
In the 1920s, aircraft slingers were launched in Germany to launch mail aircraft from the shipyard. On board ships, aircraft were used as reconnaissance aircraft. They broadened the area to be explored far beyond what was previously the best eye in the "crow's nest". Like on land the scouts were the observers in the on-board aircraft often "first on the enemy". From 1935 to 1940 the Reichs- und Kriegsmarine used the double decker Heinkel He 60 for this task. The present monograph begins with the secret preliminary work of 1928/29, which led to the design of the Heinkel HD 60. At the E-Stelle (See) in Travemünde, the introduction and use of the first ten Heinkel He 60 C will be followed by the series production of the D and E series at Heinkel, Arado and Weserflug. The main focus of the photographs is the use of the aircraft in the years 1933 to 1940. The reader has a unique insight into the training and use of the He 60 in the naval forces of the sea, in the Spanish Civil War and finally in the Second World War. The extracts are based on the exports to Spain and Bulgaria, the test patterns for train engines and the known losses. Numerous sketches and drawings give valuable hints for serious model builders.
