Re: Best Zero books

The one by Robert C. Mikesh published in Motorbooks' Warbird History series. The best in English, afaik. Mikesh's Zero volume in the Jane's Spectaculars srs is also good.

Re: Best Zero books

Zero Fighter – by Akira Yoshimura
Despite the “Flowery Prose” style of writing, it provides a good insight into the design philosophy and the initial flight and operational testing of the A6M. The book concentrates on the 1939-1943 period when the Zero was dominant or at least combat-competitive.

A6M Zero – by H.P. Willmott (64pp book published by Chartwell)
It’s a “throw-away” priced book, but covers all the variants of the A6M in surprisingly good detail.

Mitsubishi Zero – Japan’s Legendary Fighter – by Peter C. Smith
Been a bit busy of late, so have started this book but had to put it aside for the moment. Peter C. Smith is a renowned writer of naval aviation, so expect a reasonable amount of detail here.

I've also heard good things about the Mikesh book (Motorbooks series). Don't have a copy (yet).

Winged Samurai - by Henry Sakaida
Have yet to find a reasonably priced copy, but this book on the A6M pilots comes highly recommended. (I guess it depends if you want technical history or operational history.)

Re: Best Zero books

Thanks for the responses. Think I'd heard of most of those mentioned, apart from the Yoshimura and Willmott books. Will probably chase up a copy of the Mikesh (Motorbooks) book. And the Tainan book, before it sells out!

Re: Best Zero books

Hey Bruce,

You can read a half-chapter or two of Yoshimura's book on-line with Google-books. If interested, the copy I read is in the Geelong Regional Library. You might be close enough, living in Adelaide, to access it via a inter-library loan.

Regards,

Re: Best Zero books

Thanks Geoff. The inter-library loans system is helpful and one that I've used before.

Cheers,

Bruce
