Arado 199 Questions

Hi,

Publications differ on the number of Ar 199 aircraft built (2, 3, more) and their use (trainers, patrol duties in Norway) and eventual fate (lost in combat, scrapped).

Did they get to Norway, and were they lost there?

Is there other history for the Ar 199?

Can anyone set the record straight?

Thank you,
Steve

Remains of one were recovered from Nth. Russia and is now in store in Canada. A bit of a sorry sight as it has been used for target practice by Lufwaffe fighters following the crash.

Re: Arado 199 Questions

According to the book "Arado - Geschichte eines Flugzeugwerkes" 31 Arado 199 have been built, 5 "Versuchsmuster" and 26 from serial production. The book gives data for the following:

V1, Wrk.Nr. 3671, D-IFRB, later NH+AM, E-Stelle Travemünde in 1940, later Kemi/Finnland 1943.
V2, Wrk.Nr. 3672, D-ISBC, later probably BH+BM, Probably crash at E-Stelle Travemünde in 1940
V3, Wrk.Nr. 3673, D-ITLF, later TJ+HL, finally Seenotkommando IX, lost on 14.8.1942, recovered in 1993 from lake Wernj/Finnland
V4, Wrk.Nr. 3674, Musterflugzeug for 0-series, E-Stelle Travemünde in 1940
V5, (Wrk.Nr. 3676), RC+HR, testplane for changed flaps, to E-Stelle Travemünde on 27.1.1941, last documentation there in November 1941.

A-0, WRk.Nr. 0007, should be used as swamp rescue plane in Finnland in May 1940
A-0, Wrk.Nr. 0011, transferred to Pori/Finnland in May 1943
A-0, Wrk.Nr. 0017, damaged in emergency landing at Chartres/France on 28.5.1943, transfered to LZA Travemünde
A-0, Wrk.Nr. 0020, swamp rescue plane at SNK IX
A-0, Wrk.Nr. 0026, in October 1943 at 10. Seenotstaffel Stavanger
A-0, KK+BT, October 1942 E-Stelle Travemünde, May 1944 Seefliegerschule Bug on the island Rügen
A-0, BH+AN, April 1940 in Norway
A-0, DM+ZE, 15.5.1943 crash landing at Tournai without damage
A-0, KK+BX, January 1944 in Tromsö
A-0, BH+AM, summer 1943 in Kemi/Finnland

The book shows two small photos of V2 and V3
Hope this helps
Robert
