Re: Consumption of J2 fuel at Coulommiers, France in August 1944?

Online in both English and German versions you can find the war diaries of the German Naval Operations Staff (Seekriegsleitung) which spell out a some length the information obtained from some of the Ar 234 reconnaissances over Normandy. From memory they are specified as results from jets (except possibly the first one, on 2 August) but that volume of photographic information wasn’t being obtained from single flights any other way in daylight.

Hi Nick,

Thank you very much for that pointer. I have the OKW war diaries, but wouldn't have thought to consult the Kriegsmarine ones.

As you suggested, I did some searching and found the following:
  • German version @ https://opus4.kobv.de/opus4-zmsbw/home
Do a search for "seekriegsleitung" and it'll return a list of 77(!) volumes as downloadable pdf files, representing the complete Kriegstagebuch.
  • English translation @ https://archive.org/
Do a search for "german naval staff" and it'll return a list of 39 volumes (also as downloadable pdf files) in English.
Unfortunately, the English version isn't complete, so if anyone knows if/where the missing volumes are available, please post that information here. (It appears that they might not have been translated, since the website for the Naval Historical Collection Archives, https://usnwcarchives.org, just lists the exact same set of 39 volumes too.)

Regards,
Leon Venter
