Airfields Dieppe, Brachy, Bertreville in France

Hello,
I have a 1941 German map of the Lower Seine in France which mentions the following airfields :
- Dieppe,
- Brachy,
- Bertreville Saint Ouen (or perhaps Auppegard).

Do you have any information other than that of "Luftwaffe Airfields 1935-45 France"?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

Best regards,
Francois

The raw and complete wartime records of A.I.2.(b)/British Air Ministry would have lots and lots of information about them, but I am afraid these raw notes and inter-office memos were purged between 1946 and 1948 and no longer exist because they were not considered permanent records.

Kommando Flughafenbereich 19/XI
The 1940 to March 1944 records of this Koflug survived the war and today can be found at the Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiburg under Signaturen RL 20/95-110. These 16 folders will include unique details about your 3 airfields that will not be found elsewhere.

Fliegerhorstkommandantur E 2/I
Formed spring 1940 at Fp. Schippenbeil in East Prussia by renaming Fl.H.Kdtr. E Schippenbeil.
1941-44: Dieppe area NE France and remained there until re-designated in April 1944. Under Koflug 19/XI (Beauvais). The Fl.H.Kdtr. was located at Paluel/34 km WSW of Dieppe for all or most of the time. It is said to have maintained Platzkommandos at St-Aubin/4 km S of Dieppe, Brachy/15.7 km SW of Dieppe, Bertreville/40 km WSW of Dieppe, Le Bois Robert (not located), Méneslies/32.7 km ENE of Dieppe, Intraville/14.5 km E of Dieppe, Derchigny/9.8 km E of Dieppe, and Baromesnil/24.6 km ENE of Dieppe. Most of these were emergency landing grounds or dispersal airfields.
Apr 44: renamed Fl.H.Kdtr. E(v) 227/XI Platzkdo. Paluel (FpN changed 1 Jun 44).
FpN: (L 07201)
Kommandant:
Maj. Erich Spindler (3 Sep 42 - Jan 44?)
Oberst Rudolf Sauter (27 Jan 44 - Apr 44?)

Re: Airfields Dieppe, Brachy, Bertreville in France

Good evening Larry,

Thanks a lot for all these informations.
Not speaking German, I'm not familiar with German abbreviations.

- Dieppe
The aerodrome is called Dieppe - Saint Aubin. It was used by the Lufwaffe.

- Bertreville Saint Ouen
I'll make a correction about this land.
It was located 15km from Dieppe in the SSW.
Grassland had been requisitioned by the occupants to make it a relief ground. It would never have been used. According to the contact I have, the pastures were located in the town of Auppegard, bordering Bertreville Saint Ouen. I have no other information.

- Brachy
Brachy (Lufwaffe name) or Bacqueville en Caux (French Air Force name)
Land created by the French Air Force in December 1939 and used by the Luftwaffe from mid-June 1940 - July 1940.
It was located 16km from Dieppe in the SW.
I have no information on the aircraft that were based there and until when, but there were pilots as they went down to a bar in the village of Hermanville. There was a gas tank. It was still guarded in 1943.

- Le Bois Robert
It was the private land of a pilot who had fought in the First World War. The occupying army would have turned it into a fictitious airfield. It was located 12km from Dieppe in the SSE.

- Derchigny and Intraville
I currently have no information on these two sites.

- Quiberville sur Mer
It was a Flak school.
I don't know if there were any planes that were based to tow the targets and the type of planes.

Best regards,
Francois
