Re: Danish Pilot Peter Horn - aircraft info wanted

Did Peter Horn score more kills in the Bf 109 or in the Fw 190 ?

Re: Danish Pilot Peter Horn - aircraft info wanted

The dane Peter Horn did not join the Luftwaffe. He did not even apply. 9 danes applied and 6 were accepted. Sommer, Terp, Ravnskov, Harild, Fabian and Thorup. Rejected Sörensen, Aggersböl and Svensson.

If a Peter Horn existed in JG 51 he is not a dane. Also there is no personalunterlagen of him in Freiburg.

Re: Danish Pilot Peter Horn - aircraft info wanted

Hello Junker,

the name Peter Horn doesn't sound very much Danish either.
There is a quite numerous German minority living in Denmark and vice versa.
Maybe someone mislabeled him as Danish.
But there also a possibility that he or his family endeavoured to annihilate documents of his WW2 service.

Have a good Friday,

Michael

Re: Danish Pilot Peter Horn - aircraft info wanted

Hi Jörn

That was quite a bit of new information.

May I ask who this individual is, listed under Danish WW 2 aces here
https://acesofww2.com/denmark/
This photo has also appeared in a book called Am Himmel Europas by Hans Werner Neulen.
That photo is credited to the Royal Danish AF and comes via Jörn Junker....
Since I think he carries Danish wings I can only assume he has been wrongly identified all these years, but who was he??

Cheers
Stig

Re: Danish Pilot Peter Horn - aircraft info wanted

Hans Ring made an assumption decades ago that a dane Peter Horn belonged to JG 51. In the RDAF archives military pilot Lt. Peter Horn is named as one of them who got kicked out from danish military service in the summer 1945. Based on this I did conclude, that Peter served in the LW, and provided a photo of him to Neulen. So the picture shows Horn in a danish uniform. As allready mentioned he did not apply for service in the Luftwaffe and Waffen-XX. The reason for his danish military service to be ended was, that he was a member of the danish nazi party. He did not recive a sentence as most of them who joined XX, LW and other formations set up by the Germans. Some month ago I did recive a list from LW Personalamt, with the names of the danes who applied for LW service, wich finally discluded Peter Horn, confirming what his family has said for some years now. Another document confirmiong this is a list in danish rigsarkiv, showing the names of all danish officers who applied/joined for service in german armed forces.

Re: Danish Pilot Peter Horn - aircraft info wanted

Thanks Jörn

So he was a pre-war pilot, joined the Danish Nazi Party and was a member of such an organization during the war, but obviously did not leave Denmark, since, I take it, had he done that, there would have been some kind of trial in 1945.

Very interesting details Jörn.
Thanks for a quite detailed story.
Now all you need to do is to convince all the 'net sites carrying false information!....

Cheers
Stig
