He.111 loss and matching claim 12th July 1940
Dear all,
On 12th July 1940 a He.111 of 4./KG53 was lost, flown by Uffz Rudolf Franke. As three crewmebers washed ashore, while two others are still missing this He.111 must have crashed into the North Sea. I'm experiencing problems however, with finding a matching claim. In "Battle over Britain" by Mason this loss was linked with the shared claim at 16.30 hrs of F/Lt A. G. Malan, P/O P. C. Fasken and Sgt E. A. Mould of 74 Squadron. In the more recent publication "The Battle of Britain Then and Now" by Ramsay this loss was attributed to P/O J. L. Bickerdike of 85 Squadron who claimed this He.111 at 08.40 hrs. Perhaps somebody has done more recent research and is able to give a definitive answer? Thanks in advance, Hans Nauta P.S. If someone has the Wnr or individual aircraft letter on file I would be very happy - not much hope for that, anyway. |
