Re: Me 210, 2H+LA of 16./KG 6 lost 05/09/1942
Hello Peter,
the pilot was Fw Blättler, not Blättner. In the FLYPAST magazine April 2017 is given a report about this loss on 5 September 1943: „Two days later, between 15:00 and 16:00, two Me 210s, piloted by Maurer and Fw Max Blättler, took off from Soesterberg and flew towards the Thames Estuary at 26,000ft, with the probable target of Chatham in Kent. Off Southend they were intercepted by two Spitfires of 610 Squadron flown by Australians Flt Sgt ‘South‘ Creagh and Sgt Rupert Gregory. Creagh attacked first: the aircraft, correctly identified as a Me 210, had dived from 20,000 to 15,000ft. Gregory then took over, “closed in astern and fired a short burst closing from 400 yards: I saw no results so I closed in to 100 yards and fired a second burst. The port engine began to burn behind the nacelle. I noticed that the starboard propeller had stopped and the aircraft turned slowly to starboard and dived into the sea…“ Blättler and Uffz Reinhold Graf were killed when Me 210 A-1 2348 ‘2H+LA‘ crashed into the sea. Maurer managed to drop his bomb near Southend and streaked back for Soesterberg.“ In the Gen.Qu. loss report from 8 September 1942 the WNr. of the Me 210 A-1 2H+LA was 173, not 2348 and the name of the ROp was Reinhard Graf. In Jan Horn’s chronicle of KG 6 „Wir flogen gen Westen“ is a loss list with the name Meinrad Graf. Regards Leo |

Hello Chris,
according to your article on 5 Sep 1942 Fw Blättler flew Me 210 A-1 2H+LA WNr. 2348 and on 6 Sep 1942 Fw Mösges flew Me 210 A-1 2H+CA WNr. 0173. In the Gen.Qu. loss returns are listed Me 210 A-1 Fw Blättler 2H+LA WNr. 173 (lost on 5 Sep 1942) and Me 210 A-1 Fw Mösges 2H+CA WNr. 2348 (lost on 6 Sep 1942). Regards Leo |
