Plt Off Turner 114 Sqn Jan 40

Apparently a Plt Off G R Turner was slightly wounded in combat with I./JG 76 on 12 Jan 40; does anyone have a christian name, confirmation of initials or service number? I have failed with The London Gazette!

Re: Plt Off Turner 114 Sqn Jan 40

The 114 Squadron ORB lists him just as P/O G Turner. He appears in Jan 40 and again in July 40 as a P/O undertaking sorties as the pilot.

Looking in the nearest Air Force Lists (Feb and June 40) there is one General Duties officer named Turner with the first initial G that is on the list as a P/O in both publications

P/O George Turner 41498 with a seniority of 03.09.39

Regards

Martin

Thanks Martin. He appears to have been commissioned in Oct 39 and then gets the DFC with 107 Sqn in Feb 45. Looks a good bet

Re: Plt Off Turner 114 Sqn Jan 40

Hello Chris,

I agree fully with Martin's identification of this Turner. However Turner was unhurt in the 12 January 1940 combat but his observer, Sgt. Walter John Paul, was slightly injured when knocked unconscious by a bullet. (114 Sqn. Appendices, p.8). I cannot find an AIR 81 casualty file for this incident.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Therefore it is George Turner-thanks all. There is no Cas Card for him so if he was wounded, it was slight
