Correct (code)name Dunkelnachtjagd Stellung 6./Ln.Rgt. 202, June 1942

Dear all,

I am looking for the correct (code)name of the Dunkelnachtjagd Stellung 6./Ln.Rgt. 202 in June 1942. Several (secondary) sources give 'Dattel' but this can't be right -the Stellung 6./Ln.Rgt. 202 was at Egestorf/Deister, and Oblt. Hoffmann of 5./NJG3 achieved his first two night Abschüsse under control of this Raum near Heide and near Büsum on the night of 25-26 June 1942, which is a long way away from Egestorf/Deister.

Who can help?

Cheers and thanks, Theo

According to KTB XII FlK there was no Stellung manned by 6./Ln.Rgt. 202 august 1943.

Re: Correct (code)name Dunkelnachtjagd Stellung 6./Ln.Rgt. 202, June 1942

Hello Theo,

First of all, I doubt whether the info about the 6./Ln.Rgt.202 is correct. In the night of 25/25 June 1942, it was the II./Ln.Rgt.203 who was involved in 16 nightfighter kills and accordingly credited by Kammhuber. Two of the 4 successful Funkmess-Stellungen you know probably better than me: Lt.Jauk (HERING) booked his 52nd Abschussbeteiligung whereas Lt. Schulz (TIGER) had his 57th Abs.Beteiligung.

By the way, the II./Ln.Rgt.203 was the new name of the former III./Ln.Rgt.201 which (with the II./Ln.Rgt.201) manned most of the radarsites in the Netherlands in 1941 and 1942. Combined with your crashsites (Büsum and Heide), I am therefore inclined to believe that either DuNaJa-radarsite WAL or PELIKAN (St.Peter Ording) was involved. I have no documented info (yet) whether parts of the II./Ln.Rgt.203 manned WAL and/or PELIKAN as well.

Good hunting! Marcel

Thanks Jörn and Marcel -I have also come to the conclusion that a typo was made in the Hoffmann Abschussbestätigungen, and that probably either Stellung Wal or Pelikan was involved in his first two night Abschüsse.

Cheers, Theo

Hello Theo,

When Jauk and Schulz, acting in HERING and TIGER, were from the II./Ln.Rgt. 203 and the latter unit was responsible for a total of 16 Abschussbeteiligungen, then it seems logical to assume that other platoons of the II./Ln.Rgt.203 also occupied the next DuNaJa-Stellungen in the direction of Bremen. As I wrote, I can't prove it, but you must know that the 'old' Abteilungen of the Luftnachrichten Regiment 201 had grown beyond their normal Kriegsstärke. It was only a matter of time before parts were used as nucleuses for new Ln.Regimenten (see my previous entry about III./Ln.Rgt.201 becoming II./Ln.Rgt.203).

Best regards, Marcel
