US Marine Accident May 19, 1930
May 20, 1930 The Ogden Standard-Examiner from Ogden, Utah
Marine Flier Hurt In Leap From Plane SAN DIEGO, Cal., May 20.--(UP) --Lieutenant Richard John DeLacy, marine flyer, was recovering from a sprained ankle here today after he and three other marine filers were forced to leap from two planes which locked wings yesterday. The planes, flown by De Lacey and Staff Sergeant Irvin Visor Masters Were part of a formation of five,: flying at an altitude of about 3000 feet. Observers Private 1st Class Delroy Marsh Anderson and Gunnery Sgt Stanley Gordon Davey also made the jumps Davey narrowly escaping possible death when the two planes, still locked together, ripped part of his parachute on the descent. The planes were destroyed by fire after crashing. The other marines were uninjured by the Jump. I am sure that one of the aircraft was Curtiss OC-2 Falcon A7956 which Baugher reports "A7956 DBR at San Diego May 19, 1930. SOC." and I assume the other aircraft was also a Curtiss OC-2 Falcon However, can anyone confirm this and provide info on who was in which aircraft I have added Full names to the report Delacy/De Lacy Birth: April 3rd 1903 (some records April 4) Death: 25 March 1977 Masters Birth: Mar. 11, 1903 Death: Feb. 5, 1985 Davey birth: 31 July 1898 death: 29 April 1978 Birth: Jan. 9, 1903. Death: May 21, 1980. Many Thanks Paul McMillan Last edited by paulmcmillan; 5th January 2018 at 16:26. |
