Wellington shot down by 602 Squadron 1940??
Hi guys
Reading Dilip Sarkar's 'A Few of the Many' he mentions a recollection by Sgt Peter Fox (page 146) of a German-crewed 'Wellington' being shot down by Spitfires of 602 Squadron flying from Montrose, sometime in August 1940. The aircraft crashed into a skating rink in Aberdeen, so the incident should be well recorded - although I can't find it! The crew were killed and there were civilian casualties on the ground. Assuming it did occur, was the aircraft a Wellington and therefore a friendly fire incident, or was it a Ju88 misidentified? I'm sure someone knows! Cheers Brian |
