LAC Lewis - 13 Squadron 1940

Hi all,

I have got 2x Air Gunners to find their first names, I think I have one of these, Corporal George Watts, the other one is a L.A.C -- Lewis, I am stuck to find any initials, or first name for this airmen.

Any help I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Danny

If Lysander II P1711 was on 13 Sqdn then it might be Temporary Sergeant I G I Lewis who was injured in an accident during air operations over Belgium, 15 May 1940.

Re: LAC Lewis - 13 Squadron 1940

I am not sure if this is the right Lewis as being a LAC at the time.

I don't believe Lysander P1711 was with 13 Squadron.

Thanks for everyone's help thoe!!

Paul, do you reckon this is the Lewis in question?

Regards

Danny

Re: LAC Lewis - 13 Squadron 1940

Alain's information is correct I think. This was a 4 Squadron aircraft and crew (see their ORB and the AIR 81/370 Personnel casualty file). However the two sources noted above give the loss date and time as May 15th at 1215 hours, with a take-off time of 1135 hours. Some of the information appears to have been written up much later as some of the unit's records had been lost in France.

Alain, I would be very interested to learn if your sources are local records, etc. as these can often be more reliable.

40822 P/O Stephen Alers Hankey
566355 Sgt. I.G.I. Lewis
Their names and service numbers are to be found in the 4 Sqn. Appendices (AIR 27/51, pages 107 & 108), on personnel lists dated 2 and 3 October 1939. Lewis is a Corporal on those dates.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.
