crash location of Bf110 C-7 of 3./NJG3 near Cloppenburg, 10-11 May 1941?

Dear all,

Who can provide me with the crash location of Bf110 C-7 W.Nr. 3606 of 3./NJG3 near Cloppenburg on the night of 10-11 May 1941? The Nachtjäger collided with a 7 Squadron Stirling that hit the ground at Beverbruch, NE of Cloppenburg; I presume that the fighter impacted somewhere in this area?

Cheers and thanks, Theo

Hi Theo

In the GQM loss list, the crash location is specified as Carrel. This should be Garrel, 12km north of Cloppenburg.
The machine was marked L1 + BL and is called Bf 110 C-4.

Was the 3./NJG 3 in Vechta at this time?

best wishes
JoMe

The WASt file gives Cappeln(Oldenburg), which is located 6km s.e. of Cloppenburg.

Thanks for your replies JoMe and Merlin; interesting to note that these two primary sources quote a different crash location of the Bf110. As the Stirling crashed at Beverbruch near Garrel following the mid-air collision, Garrel appears more likely to be the crash location of the Nachtjäger. And yes, I./NJG3 operated from Vechta during this period.

Cheers, Theo
