P38 crash Dartmoor 26/01/43 info needed

A new one on me but a Can anyone help with information about Second Lieutenant Jerome L Foreman, who died when his P-38 crashed on Dartmoor in Devon, England, in 1943. I believe he crashed on January 26, but was not found until March 1. His body was removed from Brookwood Cemetry, England, to LA in 1948. Foreman had left RAF Portreath (Cornwall)to fly possibly to North Africa, but for some reason turned back and crashed on the moor. I'm afraid I don't know the serial number of the aircraft or where it actually crashed on Dartmoor. There is very little information on this aircraft so any help would be good.

This next link gives a "possible" serial number of the P-38 as 43-2182

Foreman, J.L. killed in aircraft crash (date unknown) U.S Army Air Force. Body found near scene of crash at approx 16.45 hrs, 1st March 1943. Died from multiple injuries".
That from you Jerry in very late December 2002 Another thread ? "Mystery crash mar 43'Lt. J L Foreman USAAF".

I wonder if Forman was part of the 9 aircraft flight on the 26th ?
How could we find out How many of that flight actually arrived in Gibraltar ?

All for now
Alex

Re: P38 crash Dartmoor 26/01/43 info needed

Hi
I came to the conclusion that as 67MU recovered a p-38, '2369', a P-38 fuselage was apparently seen in '43 at harrowbeer in the scrap pound.

that possibly foreman's aircraft was 43-2369, P-38G-15-LO.

remains of his P-38 was recovered in the late 1980's by an aircraft group.

Hi Alex, you may have sent me the list,I would have to check my computer back ups, it was a while ago

I have a file of info on this P-38 crash, but it is packed somewhere.

cheers
Jerry

Hi Chris,
Any ideas if this crash may have been the result of combat over the bay ?

Highly unlikely-Bay is a long way from Dartmoor & in any case there wouldn't have been a German claim as no way would they have seen it crash

Hi Chris,
Thanks for thd reply, I was only curious as it was a Torch resupply, he was flying to north africa, presumably via Gib.
But it makes sense about no claim.
cheers
Jerry
