S/Ldr.J.H.Hill. 222Sq. 07 Sep 1940
Hi,
On 7th September 1940 S/Ldr Johnny Hill of 222 Squadron was credited with a "Glenn Martin" probably destroyed. In his combat report Hill stated that the Twin-Engined aircraft had French markings ! Can anyone comment or confirm the identity of this aircraft - I have checked RAF losses for this date - none tie up. Cheers Bruce Lander |

The unofficial 222 Sqn diary confirms this but as being damaged. It was seen flying south at 12,000' by itself whilst the other bombers were going north. Another case of misidentification methinks

Hi Chris,
thanks for your relpy, I agree with your conclusion - just wondered if it was a friendly fire incident as Hill was so specific about the "French" roundels Best Regards Bruce Lander |
