Badly need photo reference for 6./ZG1 Bf109E with visible codes for the Polish Campaign period

Hello,

For the EoE color profile project for the Polish Campaign period of 09.39, I badly need a photo of a Bf109E from 6./ZG1. This unit became JGr101 in late-September, and adopted the "Racki" running dog emblem on the cowlings of their a/c, apparently after the Polish Campaign. I have lots of photos of unit a/c after it became JGr101 and adopted the running dog emblem, but none showing the unit from Aug-Sept, 1939, before it adopted this emblem. This would show an otherwise unmarked Bf109E with a yellow a/c number and a yellow II Gr horizontal bar after the fuselage cross. This would be on a plane with a 1939-style camouflage and a tail centered swastika.

I have good photos for the Stab, 4 and 5 Staffel, and am only lacking reference material for 6 Staffel for 09.39.

Can anyone help?

Regards,

Larry Hickey

Hello Larry,

I found in my files one Bf109E. I saved like the picture was taken in Poland, but I am not 100% sure. Unit is ZG1.
I hope this Bf109 you can use.

Best regards,

Balazs

Balazs,

Thanx for checking your files and taking the time to post this picture. This is the right unit, II./ZG1, and it might be in Poland, but it is from the Gruppenstab, not from 6./ZG1 that I'm looking for. I did already have this photo in the EoE DB. Even Dr. Jochen Prien's magnificent 109 collection has no photo of a 6 Staffel a/c from the Polish Campaign period. Someone, somewhere has one, but we've yet to turn any up.

Thanx,

Larry Hickey
