Re: BF 110 VK+KL wrecked

WNr. 5338 or 5538? I have the latter recorded in my DB.

Bf 110G-4, 5538, Langer, Ltn. Bruno, , I., 1., NJG 6, , VQ+KL, VQ+KL, , 06-Feb-44, Bauchlandung due to fuel shortage after F became disoriented. Crew interned., Apparently aircraft returned!! WNr. 5338, 'VK+KL' per Kock., Nachtjagd, Balss, Deutsche Nachtjagd, p.213; Kock, Das Kriegstagebuch des NJG6, p.42; Menke, SKZ list, , 1.5km nordwestlich Pruntrut bei Basel, Schweiz, 100%, H, Bf Gefr. Günter Achterberg, 19.10,

Re: BF 110 VK+KL wrecked

On the NVM , some hand writing indicate clearly the 5338, from where comes your 5538 Jim ??
The STKZ compares favourably with known series for the 5338, for the 5538 no !

Re: BF 110 VK+KL wrecked

I have 5 entries for Bf 110 WNr. 5338 and 5538. Obviously at least one of them is wrong and I need to sort them out. Oishh - looks like Koch was probably correct.

Bf 110G-4, 5538, n.n., , I., I., NJG 3, , , VQ+KL, , 24-Aug-43, Enemy fire., , Nachtjagd, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #11)-Vol.20; Balss, Deutsche Nachtjagd, II, p.193; Menke, SKZ list, , Perleberg, 15%, F, , ,
Bf 110G-4, 5538, Schuster, Gefr. Walter, , I., 3., NJG 3, , , VQ+KL, , 28-Apr-44, Caught by searchlight at 7000m and attacked by enemy intruder. Currently, Michael Balss is of the opinion this loss took place on the 27th of April (because of the date on the Namentliche Verlustmeldung attached).

This loss may relate to a claim of a 100 Group Mosquito of 239 Squadron which dispatched an 'Me 110' in the Essen area at 01:50 hrs (this claim is listed in the Nachtjagd Combat Archive 1944 part two).

The latter source mentioned credits "239 Squadron Mosquito DZ309 in the hands of F/Os Depper and Follis" with the kill but on the 28th of April at 02:07 hrs...

Now, I don't know which date exactly is correct. Who knows more?
