388th Bombardment Group - Pictures & Stories
I'm working on a story about the 388th Bombardment Squadron. If you know anybody who flew with them please let me know. As fate would have it...I met a man who flew with them during WWII. His stories reminded me of some old A-20 pictures my father had been given. It turns out the guy flew in same the squadron as the man who gave my father the pictures. I have a sample of the pictures posted in a special A-20 Gallery on my site if anyone is interested...
Back to the post question... I'm trying my best to collect as many stories about this squadron as possible. If anyone has (or knows) any first hand accounts it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Matt Jolley A-20 Picture Link: http://www.warbirdradio.com/2010/01/...ted/#more-1416 |

Re: 388th Bombardment Group - Pictures & Stories
Do you mean the 388th Fighter Squadron which was a component of the 365th Fighter Group (P-47 Thunderbolts) and fought in France and Germany 1943-45, or the 388th Bombardment Group (B-17s) based at Knettishall, England, and belonged to the 8th AAF?
I have a support connection to the 388th Tac Fighter Wing (Republic F-105s), Korat RTAFB Thailand, 1967, but I don't suspect that's what you are after. L. |

Larry,
No the 388th Bombardment Squadron was a WWII outfit in S-Pacific. To my knowledge they mostly flew A-20 Havocs. Matt Jolley |

Interesting.........two entirely different squadrons operating in two different theaters at exactly the same time with the same number. Probably not unique, but definitely unusual.
